CD Projekt Red will be using a new version of its in-house REDengine to develop the upcoming futuristic RPG, Cyberpunk 2077.

Designed specifically for games with vast open worlds and non-linear stories, REDengine 3 is the latest iteration of the Polish developer's powerful video game development kit. According to CD Projekt Red, the engine can be used in a multitude of titles, including RPGs and shooters, and is, "a next-gen ready solution that begins to blur the line between pre-rendered CGI movies and real time rendered graphics."

Aside from new animation and rendering systems capable of presenting players with the most realistic characters to date, REDengine 3 will also use a new version of the REDkit editor. The editor can be used to build varied branching quests for a free-roaming environment to provide a truly immersive open-world for players to explore.

Cyberpunk 2077 is due out in 2015, though the first image revealed from the engine appears to tease The Witcher 3, which has been rumored to be in development for next generation consoles.
