Obsessive Soccer Fan Dies After Going 11 Nights Without Sleep

ThinkStock

Talk about a die-hard — A Chinese soccer fan died in his sleep after staying awake for 11 straight days watching every Euro 2012 game. Jiang Xiaoshan finally conked out from exhaustion.

After watching Italy defeat the Republic of Ireland, the 26-year-old fan allegedly went back to his home, took a shower and fell asleep, only to never wake back up. Xiaoshan reportedly showed no signs of health issues during the matches. Authorities believe his death may have been the result of a combination of alcohol, tobacco and sleep deprivation.

The European games are being played at times that required Xiaoshan to stay up late at night to watch the games. According to Newscore, several fans went to the hospital suffering from exhaustion during the World Cup in 2006 and 2010.

Imagine if these people were watching an exciting sport.
