Fire Emblem Awakening will be getting some day-one downloadable content to help extend the strategic swords-and-spells adventure.

A press release from Nintendo reveals some of the DLC that will be available upon the game's debut and how players can get their mitts on them. First up is a batch of content that can be accessed through WiFi via the game's "Outrealm Gate", which is unlocked after the main story's fifth mission. This DLC includes maps that players will be able to download weekly, including a map that will be free for a limited time starting on the game's release date. There will also be content in the form of, "additional information about new class types, skills, playable characters, maps with new storylines and special maps that let players earn more experience points, gold or other rare items."

Content will also be available for download through Nintendo's SpotPass feature, and will include new maps, storylines, characters, and items. Players can connect to each other via StreetPass and have the chance to interact with each others' characters, with the ability to recruit the other player's team leader with gold or by being victorious in battle.

Anyone interested in checking out the game first, before deciding to accept the stream of maps and other weekly content into their loving arms, should know that a demo is set to drop on January 17th, 2013. The game will be released shortly after on February 4th, 2013, in both physical and downloadadble eShop form, for $39.99.
