‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ Trailer: The Japanese Version Brings Us “Back to Revenge”
It’s hard to ignore that many of 2013’s biggest movies could have come out in 2012, and would have if they weren’t bumped around the schedule. Though ‘Gangster Squad‘ came first and ‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters‘ will be here shortly, we’re most curious about ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘ which was scheduled for last June, but doesn’t come out until this March. Now there’s a new international TV spot, and we’re still curious.
This features all the same footage we’ve seen before, and that goes along with what producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently explained, that the reshoots were minimal and that Channing Tatum (rumored to be killed off early in the film) only shot for a couple hours of that reshoot. That doesn’t mean that they didn’t save his character — you only need a minute of screen time to wake up from a coma — or much of anything considering that producers are often less than truthful.
Like we said, this Japanese TV spot doesn’t offer much new, so it’s quite possible that the film isn’t going to drastically change their marketing strategy (which could be confusing if audiences think the movie already came out). The most awesome part is the film’s subtitle, which seems to have been fed through babelfish, and was turned from ‘Retaliation’ into “Back to Revenge.” ‘G.I Joe: Retaliation’ hits theaters on March 29.
