Ghostbusters’ was a huge hit, spawning a sequel and an all-female remake, but it almost was never ‘Ghostbusters’ at all. The film was originally called ‘Ghost Smashers’ before someone realized that's a horrible title. Needs some more phantastic facts? Who ya gonna call? You Think You Know Movies! Grab your proton pack and get ready to get slimed with these gooey facts.

You've probably heard the story by now that ‘Ghostbusters’ was originally written for John Belushi and Eddie Murphy to star (Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson wound up replacing them). But, what you maybe hadn't heard is that John Candy was offered the role of Louis Tully. Director Ivan Reitman had worked with Bill Murray and Candy on 'Stripes', and discussed the part with him. The only problem was that Candy wanted the character to speak with a thick German accent and have a pack of large German Shepherd dogs. That was a little too weird, even for a movie where Louis himself turns into a dog.
