It looks like April Fools Day came a day early as Google has announced their new 8-bit version of their popular Maps product, which is now available on the NES.

Here's the company's statement on YouTube:

Google Maps is now available for 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment Systems (NES). Availability in Google Store is TBD but you can try it on your browser by going to http://maps.google.com and clicking "Quest" in the upper right hand corner of the map or just click this link - http://goo.gl/i4onu

The browser version definitely works, but we regrettably ditched our NES when Super Nintendo came along. We're sorry, Nintendo. Your return to greatness has taught us a very valuable lesson. We should all be hoarders.

As for you, Google, we look forward to you being our dark overlord. All hail Google. We excitedly await your Intellivision version of Maps.
