No. 20: Grim Fandango – 100 Greatest Games Ever

LucasArts

Grim Fandango is a shining example of the adventure gaming genre that boasts a story and theme unlike any other. After all, how many games are done up in the style of film noir and thrown into a “dia de los muertos” setting? It’s Casablanca with skeletons!

The star of the show, Manny Cavalera, is one of the great gaming heroes. He a travel agent for the Department of Death that helps people get to the Underworld with whatever method they can afford (from train to walking stick), and his quest to uncover corruption in the department and get to his final resting place with his friends is an epic one, one which you’ll want to replay every few years just to remember how amazing it is. Tim Shafter and LucasArts’ finest moment.
