The 26-year-old R&B/soul musician from Kansas City, Kansas released her debut studio album, The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III) in 2010. The concept album sequel to her first EP received acclaim from critics and gained a Grammy Nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
The song 'Tightrope' was also nominated for "Best Urban/Alternative Performance"; this album was also more successful commercially officially reaching the #17 spot on the Billboard Charts.
Monáe plans on releasing an instrumental version of The ArchAndroid in addition to an ArchAndroid inspired film and two more albums in 2012.
She's currently a supporting act with the Red Hot Chili Peppers on their 'I'm With You' tour.
