Linebacker Jaylon Smith, one of the nation's top-rated prep football players, announced Wednesday that he will play college football at Notre Dame. Smith is a 6-foot-3, 212-pound senior at Bishop Luers High School in Fort Wayne, Ind. He won four state titles in four years of playing high school football.

"(He's a) different kind of kid," said Mike Farrell, national recruiting analyst for Rivals.com. "He's like 'Plastic Man.' ... He's so long, so fast, so good in coverage. You rarely see a guy like that who's got quick-twitch ability who can cover so much ground so quickly."

Smith played halfback and linebacker in high school and defensive end at the U.S. Army All-America Game. He is expected to be an impact player for the Fighting Irish.
