Gold medal-winning U.S. skier Lindsey Vonn suffered torn knee ligaments and a leg fracture after a scary crash at the world championships in Austria on Tuesday. The four-time overall World Cup champion is expected to miss the remainder of the 2013 season and could be questionable for the start of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia next February. Video of the crash is below:

Vonn lost her balance coming off a jump during a super-G run. After her ski came off, Vonn slid down the slope into a gate before coming to a stop. The unsettling video of the crash picked up Vonn's cries of agony as course workers came to her aid. The two-time Olympic medalist was hospitalized after being airlifted off the course by helicopter. The medical director of the U.S. ski team said Vonn tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in her right knee and suffered a lateral tibia plateau fracture.

Among the most successful Alpine skiers of all-time, Vonn returned to competitive skiing in January after missing a month due to an intestinal illness. Not unfamiliar with injuries, Vonn suffered maladies prior to competing in the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics.
