Mets Player Jordany Valdespin Hit In Groin By 94 MPH Fastball, Wasn’t Wearing Cup

You didn’t want to be Jordany Valdespin on Monday. A utility player for the New York Mets, Valdespin hit a home run off Detroit Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander to lead off the teams’ spring training game on Monday. Great day, right? Well, just wait.
Valdespin’s next at-bat, Verlander pitched inside and hit him in the groin with a 94 mph. fastball. Mets’ beat writer Mike Puma saw it happen live:
Valdespin drilled in groin area by 94 mph heater.

May have hit Valdespin square in the boys.

Valdespin was more succinct, and his ‘boys’ were wofully unprepared for the collision:
Valdespin says he is OK … Asked where he got hit: “My dick,” Valdespin said.

Mets aren’t happy with Valdespin’s judgement – he wasn’t wearing a cup, I was just told.

Puma also reported that Verlander was, uh, remorseful.
Verlander on drilling Valdespin: “Right out of the hand it’s like, ‘Oh, sh–. That is right at his balls. ’ ”

However, balls well that ends well for Valdespin:
Valdespin: ““Everything is good, working good, normally, everything is great.”

Verlander is capable of throwing 100 mph, so Valdespin was lucky. Sort of. Let’s hope that — once he’s done with that ice pack on his crotch — he employs common sense next time he’s facing such a threat to his manhood. Oh, the Mets won the game 11-0, even though Valdespin most certainly lost by two.
