Minecraft's banner sales year continues, as nearly half-a-million copies were sold on Christmas Day.

Markus "Notch" Persson broke the news that Minecraft sold 435,000 copies across all platforms via his Twitter, though he admittedly got the day wrong.

Regardless of which day had the remarkable sales, Minecraft's continued success is absolutely stunning. The open-world do-it-yourselfer was a smash hit when it arrived on Xbox Live Arcade this past summer, and this was after already being a massive hit on PC.

With a devoted following, comprehensive and consistent updating, and the ability to mod the game (on PC), it seems there's nothing that will be able to stunt the sales of Minecraft. Now it's just a matter of seeing how long this kind of success can be sustained.
