Miranda May Kerr was born on 20 April, 1983 in the town of Gunnedah in Sydney. At 13, Kerr won a modelling competition and began her career as a fashion model. Immediately after, she was embroiled in media controversy over the glorification of young girls in the glamor industry, especially when posed in bathing suits for a campaign when she was 14. After signing to a Sydney-based modelling agency, she received considerable exposure in Australia after appearing in a series of beachwear ads for surfing brand Billabong.

When Kerr relocated to New York, she signed with NEXT Model Management in early 2004. She walked the ramp for brands like Baby Phat, Levi’s, L.A.M.B., Blumarine Swimwear, Neiman Marcus, Seafolly Swimwear, and Roberto Cavalli, among many others. In 2007, she became the first Australian model to be offered a contract with Victoria’s Secret, which also made her the first Australian Victoria’s Secret Angel. Her beautiful looks, especially her dimpled cheeks, made Kerr one of the most popular Victoria’s Secret models. Back in Australia, she signed a lucrative deal to become the face of department store David Jones. In 2008, Forbes placed Kerr tenth in the list of the world’s top-earning models, having earned an estimated $3.5 million in the past year.

After leaving NEXT Model Management, Kerr signed with IMG Models by the end of 2008. In 2009, Kerr launched her own brand of organic skincare products, Kora Organics. She has posed naked for several campaigns, including one for Rolling Stone Australia to raise awareness about the plight of koalas and even for the 2010 Pirelli calendar. Kerr continues to model for campaigns outside of Victoria’s Secret, and has walked the runway for brands like Prada and Stella McCartney. Kerr was ranked number 1 in the 2010 FHM Australia list of “100 Sexiest Women in the World”. She ranked in several such hot lists and has appeared on numerous magazine covers. After nearly three years of dating, Kerr married British actor Orlando Bloom in July 2010 and gave birth to their first child in January the following year.
