Ron Gilbert, creator of the famed Monkey Island adventure game, recently told Eurogamer that he aims to get the rights for the franchise back in order to create a new game.

The House of Mouse recently bought Lucasfilm and LucasArts, and with the purchase, the rights to the Monkey Island franchise. Gilbert wants to regain control of the rights to Monkey Island for fear that Disney will abandon it in favor of its popular more popular pirate franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean.

If the rights to the franchise do in fact go back to Gilbert, it will probably be developed by Double Fine, with whom he's currently working with to make The Cave.
