National Rifle Association Aims Sandy Hook Blame At Violent Video Games

BioShock Infnite

The NRA held a press conference in which it blamed violent video games and the entertainment industry in general for the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.

NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre said, “Through vicious, violent video games with names like Bulletstorm, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat and Splatterhouse. And here’s one: it’s called Kindergarten Killers. It’s been online for 10 years. How come my research department could find it and all of yours either couldn’t or didn’t want anyone to know you had found it?”

He also claims that the video game industry corrupts people and sows violence against each other. LaPierre then turned his attention to the rest of the media, saying that films like American Psycho and Natural Born killers “are aired like propaganda loops” and that they, like some music videos out there, glorify murder as a way of life.

This isn’t the first time that a tragedy has been pinned on video games and the industry and we’re sure it won’t be the last. The Grand Theft Auto series, specifically, has been famously blamed for many shootings and was always the target of lawsuits from lawyer Jack Thompson.

LaPierre ends the press conference by calling on Congress to work on putting armed security in every school, saying that the NRA will assist in helping this plan of action come to fruition, for the safety of all children. You can read all of the details from the press conference here.
