Syracuse and Marquette advanced to the round of 16 in the East Regional on Saturday. Four more schools played Sunday to determine which two teams would join them in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.

The ninth-seeded Temple Owls nearly knocked off top-seeded Indiana, while second-seeded Miami faced a skilled Illinois team that survived a battle with Colorado on Friday night.

Shane Larkin scored 17 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with a minute left, and second-seeded Miami came from behind to beat seventh-seeded Illinois, 63-59, in a third round game of the 2013 NCAA tournament's East Region in Austin, Tex. on Sunday. The Hurricanes benefited from a referee's call in the closing seconds that gave them possession of a loose ball that could have also been ruled for Illinois. Rion Brown led Miami with 21 points. The Hurricanes advanced to the round of 16 and play Marquette in Washington D.C. on Thursday night. Brandon Paul scored 18 points to lead Illinois.

(1) Indiana 58, (9) Temple 52

Victor Oladipo's 3-pointer with 13 seconds to play helped No. 1-seed Indiana beat ninth-seeded Temple, 58-52, in a third round game of the 2013 NCAA tournament's East Region on Sunday in Dayton, Ohio. The Hoosiers trailed often in the game, falling behind by four points with under 3 minutes left, but they rallied to advance to the Sweet 16. Indiana will face Syracuse in Washington, D.C. on Thursday. Oladipo led the Hoosiers with 16 points and eight rebounds. Khalif Wyatt scored 31 points to lead Temple. The Owls shot just 3-for-24 from behind the 3-point line.
