The Northern Illinois Huskies' men's basketball team isn't very good. They are spectacularly bad, actually. On Saturday, Northern Illinois broke its own NCAA Division I record for least points in a first half in the shot clock era by scoring just four points before halftime in a 42-25 loss to Eastern Michigan.

One half = four points. NIU missed 30 consecutive shots in that first half. Just don't tell that to whomever posted the game results to Niuhuskies.com:

Huskies Fall at Eastern Michigan
NIU posts best defensive effort since 2005-06, allowing just 42 points.

Despite the glass-half-full thinking, Northern Illinois set another record by shooting just 3.2 percent from the field in the first half on Saturday. They finished the game making 8 of 61 attempts — a 13.1 percent accuracy rate, which set another NCAA record for futility.

The Huskies had missed 32 consecutive 3-point shots, when Daveon Balls connected with 2:05 left in the game. Balls had a team-high eight points, but, as is often the case in life, Balls wasn't nearly enough to change fate.

Coming into the game, Northern Illinois already had the record for fewest points in a first half, 5, against Dayton on Dec. 1.The Huskies scored 12 points in the final 3:21 to avoid setting the all-time NCAA Division I record for least points in a game, 20, by St. Louis in 1988.
