Be warned, for the end is nigh. The annihilation of the species of man is on the horizon. And we can't think of a better way to go out in a blaze of glory.

Dr Philip Zimbardo, Stanford University’s Professor of Psychology, insists that we must tackle “Guy Disaster Mode” before it’s too late. He argues that addiction to video games and online porn is creating a “generation of male misfits”.

His book ‘The Demise of Guys: Why Boys are Struggling and What We Can Do About It’, co-written by Nikita Duncan, suggests that men are being “digitally rewired” in a way that requires constant stimulation. This process leaves men “out of sync” in a school or work environment and in romantic relationships.

Young men who watch too much porn develop “arousal addictions”, rendering them unable to function in the real world or develop healthy relationships. Zimbardo is convinced the damage is already being done. He points to research showing a 40-year low in boys' SAT scores and a National Center for Education Statistics study that reported boys are four to five times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, and 30 percent more likely to drop out of high school and college.

Most ominously, Zimbardo warns that spending too much time alone in the digital world could lead to an early death. Of course, people have been predicting the end of man all the way back to the Old Testament. We don't think dudes will press pause about their time running out despite the lack of a reset button. At least porn and gaming could actually lead to stronger thumbs and wrists.
