Sandra Bullock — Crush of the Day

Sandra Bullock is an American actress and producer who rose to fame in the 1990s and won her first Academy Award for Best Actress in 2010 for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy in 'The Blind Side.' 

Sandra Bullock (Sandra Annette Bullock) was born on July 26, 1964 in Arlington, Virginia. Her father, John Bullock, was a United States Army employee and he married her mother, Helga D. Meyer, a German opera singer, in Nuremburg, Germany. As a child, Bullock would accompany her mother on her tours across Europe. Fluent in German, Bullock studied ballet and vocal arts as a child, taking small parts in her mother's opera productions and even sang in the operas children's choir at the Staatstheater Nürnberg.

Back in America, Bullock attended Washington-Lee High School, where she was a cheerleader and performed in high school theater productions. She dropped out of college to pursue an acting career and moved to Manhattan, where she would take acting lessons and appear on off-Broadway shows. Her performances impressed director Alan J. Levi, who cast her in a TV movie. Several roles in smaller films and television shows later, Bullock landed her first major Hollywood role in the 1993 action film ‘Demolition Man,’ starring as Sylvester Stallone’s love interest. The following year, Bullock starred in the blockbuster action film ‘Speed,’ and the film’s success made her a star.

Her success continued until the end of 1990s thanks to other hits such as ‘While You Were Sleeping,’ ‘A Time to Kill’ and ‘Miss Congeniality’. Bullock turned producer for her films beginning with ‘Hope Floats’ and in the 2000s, produced ‘Two Weeks Notice’ and the 2005 sequel ‘Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous’. Bullock, through her production company Fortis Films, is also the producer of The George Lopez Show. She reunited with her ‘Speed’ co-star Keanu Reeves for the romantic drama ‘The Lake House’ in 2006. Bullock had her most successful year in 2009, when ‘The Proposal’ and ‘The Blind Side’ became box office hits, making her the only actress to date to have a film marketed with her name pass the $200 million mark in domestic gross. Her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy in ‘The Blind Side’ won Bullock her first Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Actress. ‘The Blind Side’ grossed over $309 million at the global box office, making it Bullock’s biggest hit in her career spanning over two decades.

Bullock is one of the richest female celebrities in Hollywood with an estimated net worth of nearly $100 million. She is listed in the 2012 edition of the Guinness Book Of World Records as the highest-paid actress, with $56 million earned in 2009 for her film work. Bullock was married to motorcycle builder Jesse James until August 2010, but now has full custody of James' five-year-old daughter. That same year, Bullock went ahead with the adoption of a baby, as a single parent.
