Just because you're not actually having sex with someone doesn't mean you can't pretend you are -- and a new Swedish app that promotes safe sex will even mix your voices together so you can hear what it would sound like.

Swedes apparently are not very big on condom usage, and that's leading to a boom in STDs. So in an effort to combat that, the Swedish Institute for Communicable Disease Control launched the Provligget, or "Test Nooky," app.

Here's how it works: you can "test sex" with a range of fantasy characters (including a personal trainer or an unfaithful woman) who are all voiced by Swedish actors of varying fame. Once you choose your "partner," you're asked if you want to use a condom -- hint, say yes -- and then you record your own sex noises, which are mixed with those of your imaginary partner.

While all this is going on, you'll see little messages like "Did you know that people who suggest using a condom are seen as confident and considerate?" and "Did you know Swedes are among the worst in the world at using a condom?"

And if you don't like the fantasy characters that come with the app, you can take it to a whole new level of weird by asking a Facebook friend to sit in as your partner instead. Yay, more creepy uses for social media!

The whole idea is to raise awareness about the importance of condom usage, which app creator Karin Raagsjoe says "can be hard if you don't make it a habit ... sort of like wearing a bike helmet."

Sweden is concerned with protecting both your heads.
