The excitement of March Madness has petered down to the middle school ranks.

The sixth grade championship in the Central Loudoun Basketball League in Virginia will go down in history, thanks to the astonishing efforts of one player, identified only as Alex.

Alex intercepted an inbounds pass before letting it fly from half court as the buzzer sounded. He drained the shot, sending his team to the title and causing the kind of pandemonium in the gym you usually only see when Dick Vitale is somewhere on press row screaming, "Oh, baby!"

It's merely the latest ridiculous buzzer beater to come along in recent days. Let's just hope this serves as some sort of omen for great endings when the real March Madness gets underway.
