Sofía Vergara is a Colombian actress, comedian, television hostess and model, best known for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the hit comedy series 'Modern Family'.

Sofía Margarita Vergara was born on July 10, 1972 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Vergara grew up in a big family of five brothers and a sister, who all nicknamed her "Toti". Vergara was raised as a devout Catholic in her hometown of Barranquilla and attended an elite bilingual Spanish-English school.

At age 18, Vergara married her childhood sweetheart and she gave birth to her son Manolo Gonzalez-Ripoll Vergara in 1992, at the age of 20. After her first marriage ended, Vergara studied pre-dentistry at a university in Colombia for three years. During this period, Vergara was scouted by a photographer and was soon presented with offers in modeling and television work. She considered accepting the work despite her religious upbringing, and Vergara made her first appearance as a performer in a Pepsi commercial that was widely broadcast in Latin America.

Vergara moved to Bogota, Columbia and worked on shows for the Univisión Spanish-language television network. The exposure made Vergara a star in the Latin American markets and even got her name known in United States through the Univisión stations there. Additionally she executive produced and starred in the Spanish version of 'Desperate Housewives'. After Vergara's contract with Univisión expired, she appeared on the ABC sitcoms 'Hot Properties' and 'The Knights of Prosperity' before joining the regular cast of 'Modern Family'. For her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in 'Modern Family,' Vergara has been nominated twice for an Emmy and twice for the Screen Actors Guild Award.

Vergara has appeared on several magazine covers, photographed for calendars, topped AskMen's Top 99 Women of 2012 list, and endorses brands CoverGirl and Comcast's Xfinity.
