After surviving an early arm bar attempt by the Brazilian, Jon "Bones" Jones began an onslaught of vicious elbows and continued using that approach for the duration of the bout. Belfort ended up in guard on multiple occasions, once because he pulled guard and once from a vicious body shot, but did not manage to attempt any other submissions for the rest of the fight.

Despite fighting with what looked like a severely hyperextended arm, Jones landed a keylock in the 4th round, winning by submission 54 seconds into the round. He remains the UFC light heavyweight champion, improving his record to 17-1 in his fourth successful title defense.
