8 Celebrities Who Should Go Back to Being Overweight

Jonah Hill is nominated for an Oscar. Heavy Jonah Hill. Not the new, super-thin Jonah. We kind of miss the old half of Jonah.

Slimming down may sound great for a career, but it's not always for the best. Consider these celebrities who dropped a boatload of blubber, but should perhaps reconsider:

Al Roker

Roker dropped 100 pounds after going gastric bypass surgery in 2002, and while we certainly sympathize with the health issues compounded by his weight — including subsequent knee and back operations — if you have to hear about a flood alert in your county, wouldn’t you rather get the news from a jolly fellow like Willard Scott?

Seth Rogan

Rogen was never truly obese — more like doughy — but given that he trimmed down to take the starring role in his wretched ‘Green Hornet’ film adaptation, and has subsequently admitted that life as a thinner guy isn’t as much fun, we’d say everyone was a lot happier when Rogen was bigger, schlubbier, and starring in funnier films like ‘Knocked Up.’ (Happily, Seth has recently copped to gaining some of that weight back. Belly up!)

Randy Jackson

Jackson has dropped over 100 pounds since being diagnosed with diabetes and opting for gastric bypass surgery in 2004, and while we’d never wish a life-threatening disease on anybody, ‘American Idol’ just hasn’t been the same since the show’s top dawg slimmed down. One of the top session bassists of the rock era, Jackson knows how to find the bottom end in any arrangement. Perhaps he needs to reclaim his own in order to get his show’s mojo back?

Jared from Subway

As anyone who’s ever watched ‘The Biggest Loser’ could tell you, Subway is the healthiest fast-food restaurant around — and we’re certainly happy for real-life Subway success story Jared Fogle, whose dramatic weight loss catapulted him to national fame as the chain’s ubiquitous pitchman. But boy, are we ever tired of those commercials. If Jared fell off the diet wagon — just for a few months — we could feel good about ordering a $5 footlong.

Jonah Hill

Opposite Michael Cera in ‘Superbad,’ chubby Jonah Hill made us laugh like crazy. Then he dropped a bunch of weight and decided to star in a feature film version of the cheese-coated ’80s cop show ’21 Jump Street.’ It’s great that Hill is feeling healthier these days, but we remember what happened when his buddy Seth Rogen lost weight for an action comedy, and… well, we’re just saying. And remember, heavy 'Moneyball' Jonah got nominated for an Oscar. Thin Jonah did 'Allen Gregory.'

Drew Carey

Carey wasn’t always overweight — in fact, as a young man, he reached the rank of corporal as a reservist in the United States Marine Corps — but by the time he achieved fame as a stand-up comedian, he’d grown into a pretty big fellow. Next, of course, came nine hilarious years as the star of ‘The Drew Carey Show.’ These days, Carey is slimmer, healthier… and the host of ‘The Price Is Right.’ Coincidence? Maybe not.

Forest Whitaker

Whitaker is an amazing, Oscar-winning actor and even in his earliest roles — like ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ — he projected an air of quiet menace and effortless cool. That gets a lot harder to do, though, after you show up at the 2010 Oscars looking like an emaciated version of yourself. What’s next for Whitaker’s career? We’d suggest the role of Man Who Eats a Sandwich.

Jerry O’Connell

As a child actor, O’Connell was the adorably chubby tyke whose impressive performance in ‘Stand by Me’ seemed like it should have led to better things, but served mostly as a prelude to cheesy B-level fare like ‘My Secret Identity’ and ‘Sliders.’ Then he grew up, slimmed down, and achieved the impossible dream by marrying Rebecca Romijn. Pretty sweet life, eh? We wouldn’t blame you if you wished a few extra pounds on the guy.
