Nintendo had Mario, Sega had Sonic. The TurboGrafx-16, the first 16-bit system ever, had Bonk.

A caveman with some sort of elephantitis of the head, Bonk roamed through prehistoric times fighting dinosaurs and other monsters with the aid of his giant noggin. Eating pieces of meat can make him stronger, like any good caveman.

His adventure still holds up as one of the best platformers of all time, one of the few games the sadly maligned Turbografx had to call its own. A reboot of the franchise was in the works at Hudson, but after the studio got closed the project was lost as well. Hopefully someone can recover it so that Bonk can continue headbutting dinos for years to come.
