The first Call of Duty to take the series out of World War II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare still holds the distinction of having the best campaign of the bunch.

It's easy to forget how many great moments were in this game, with all of those yearly COD games clogging up the system. But think about Modern Warfare's first, thrilling level set aboard a sinking ship, the All Ghillied Up sniper level, the last stand by the ferris wheel, the nuke -- so many incredible, memorable set pieces. And of course, every single one of those moments were just repeated in later games.

While multiplayer has definitely been improved in various ways over the subsequent releases it all started right here. There isn't a new shooter created that doesn't copy the xp and challenge system in order to increase replay value.
