No. 26: Diablo II – 100 Greatest Games Ever

Blizzard's followup to its classic hack and slash role playing game was a godsend for people dying for more loot. Because really, why do you play Diablo if not to kill hundreds of monsters for loot? It's easy to feel gain an addiction to finding better weapons and equipment, and this time instead of just going deeper and deeper into a single dungeon you're exploring all kinds of different areas over a series of chapters.

Designed with multiplayer specifically in mind, the game now has spells and abilities that were made to be used with a party. Co-op play is the most fun but player vs player allows you to kill people for their gold as well as well as their ear, preferably to string on a necklace.

Will Diablo 3 one day take this spot? It's only just been released but if the co-op and new classes are any indication- yes. Yes it will.
