New York's Times Square may be the most famous destination in the world to ring in the new year, but it's got nothing on Dubai, which held a massive New Year's extravaganza culminating in an insanely ornate fireworks display.

To celebrate the start of 2013, organizers shot fireworks out of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world at 2,716 feet, while the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra gave a live performance.

Meanwhile, 1.7 million attendees gaped in astonishment and filmed the event with cellphones. The gala was also telecast via satellite to more than 1,000 TV channels worldwide and streamed online, reaching a total of approximately 2 billion people.

Yes, it's spectacular, but it's also incredibly excessive. Just try not to feel inadequate next time you see the Times Square ball drop.
