Elvis has left the field.

Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus missed the team’s Thursday spring training game because his arm was sore after he got a gigantic tattoo of his late father, who passed away when he was seven.

Yup, it’s merely the latest ridiculous sports injury.

Andrus pays tribute to his father before each game by scribbling his initials around second base and then signing the cross and pointing to the sky, although right now it's probably quite a chore to lift that arm.

Andrus is expected to return to the lineup on Friday and Saturday before he heads out to join Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. Here’s hoping he doesn’t have to miss any of these games if he elects to get a tattoo of Hugo Chavez in the middle of that tournament.
