The defending World Series-champion San Francisco Giants are hosting Metallica Night at AT&T Park on Friday. Members of the iconic metal band will be on hand to take part in pre-game festivities, including the National Anthem and the first pitch.

We don't know if band members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett or Robert Trujillo needed help with pitching mechanics for Friday's ceremonial first toss, but Giants' starting pitcher Barry Zito looked like he had a good time jamming with the band at Metallica Headquarters in San Rafael, Calif. earlier this week. You can watch their jam session in the video above.

Zito grew up in a musical family; his dad was a conductor and arranger for Nat King Cole. The pitcher played the ballad-ish hit 'Fade To Black' with the band. While Zito played the acoustic part of the song well, we have to give him an E-1 on that choice. It's Metallica: pick out an electric guitar and let it rip!

The Giants have also scheduled a Metallica trucker hat giveaway for Friday's game against the rival Dodgers, though we were really hoping for in-game pyro every time the team did something positive. Maybe they can just play all of James Hetfield's 'Yeahs' during the seventh-inning stretch instead of 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame."
