Red Dead Redemption is the most compelling of Rockstar Games' titles thus far, a pitch-perfect take on the Western genre. John Marsten is the perfect protagonist, flawed and with a dark past and hoping in vain to change his ways. Just riding your horse around the country taking in all the sights and wildlife along the way is sensational, the  trip itself as satisfying as the inevitable gunfight at the end of it.

It's a long story that leaves a lot of corpses in your path, but it all comes together in a truly jaw-dropping ending. Add in fantastic multiplayer modes and one of the finest pieces of DLC in Zombie Nightmare and you've got a must-own title.
