Spend Too Much Time on Facebook? Hire Someone to Slap You in the Face

Slapped for Facebook.

We all know it’s easy to get distracted and waste a ton of time on Facebook (or GuySpeed) but one guy is getting serious about his social media addiction — he hired someone to slap him in the face every time he logs on to Facebook.

Maneesh Sethi recently used an app to track his computer usage and found that he was spending over 29 hours per week on Facebook and Reddit. He then posted a Craigslist ad, offering $8 per hour to anyone willing to smack him upside the head whenever he got off task. He received more than 20 replies in just the first hour. After meeting with — and hiring — a young woman named Kara, he found that his average productive time went from 35-40% per day to 98%.

Sethi says the productivity increase came not just from Kara’s ability to keep him off of social media, but to serve as a sounding board for ideas and a source of feedback.

And all this time we thought Craigslist had stopped letting you advertise to hire women to slap you for money.
