Beyoncé Knowles, or more commonly known as Beyoncé, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and model who first rose to fame with the group Destiny's Child before becoming a solo superstar.

Beyoncé Knowles Bio

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston Texas. Her mother Tina Knowles is a costume designer and hair stylist and her father, a professional record manager. She is older sister of Solange Knowles, who is also a singer and actress.

Beyoncé enrolled in ballet and jazz dancing when she was in elementary school. During her years in elementary school, she also began singing in choirs. At eight, Beyoncé met LaTavia Roberson while in an audition for an all-girl entertainment group and along with childhood friend Kelly Rowland, were put into a group originally named Girl's Tyme. The young girl group appeared on the television show 'Star Search,' but failed to make it in the competition. Beyoncé's father, who was a salesman at the time, quit his job and began managing the group as they tried again to make it big. He shuffled the group's members and added LeToya Luckett to the now four member line-up. The group changed their name to Destiny's Child and signed with Columbia Records in 1996. The group would score their first chart in 1998 with "No, No, No". The group saw more line-up changes in 1999, but also greater success with number one hits "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Say My Name". Destiny's Child would enter the 2000s as a three-member group - Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams - the line-up fans would remember the most. The group scored more number one hits the next two years with songs like "Independent Women Part I", "Survivor," and "Bootylicious".

In 2002, Beyoncé made her big screen debut as an actress in the comedy film 'Austin Powers in Goldmember,' playing Foxxy Cleopatra, opposite Mike Myers. The following year she starred opposite Cuba Gooding Jr. in 'The Fighting Temptations,' and even sang on the film's soundtrack. In 2003, Beyoncé released her solo debut album 'Dangerously in Love' which spawned the smash hit single "Crazy In Love" featuring her then boyfriend, rapper Jay-Z. In 2004, Beyoncé rejoined Destiny's Child for one final album before their disbandment the following year.

In 2006, Beyoncé starred in 'The Pink Panther' remake, playing a singer involved with Steve Martin's character. That same year, she also released her second studio album 'B'Day,' out of which came Beyonce's fourth number one single "Irreplaceable". Towards the end of the year, Beyonce appeared in her most high-profile film role to date, in 'Dreamgirls,' which also starred Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Hudson. Her performance in the film was lauded by critics and Beyonce recorded several songs for the film's soundtrack.

After years of dating, Beyoncé and Jay-Z secretly wed in 2008. She ended the year by releasing her third album 'I Am... Sasha Fierce,' which produced her fifth number one hit "Single Ladies". The accompanying black-and-white music video and choreography was widely imitated and spoofed, with some in the press crediting it as having started the "first major dance craze of both the new millennium and the Internet". 'I Am... Sasha Fierce' also produced the hit single "Halo" which would become one of Beyoncé's most popular ballads. At the end of 2008, Beyonce starred as singer Etta James in the musical biopic film 'Cadillac Records' and even performed James' classic hit "At Last" at The Neighborhood Inaugural Ball of Obama and his wife Michelle's first dance as President and First Lady of the United States on January 20, 2009.

By 2009, Beyoncé was named one of the highest earning celebrities, earning over $87 million in a year, largely coming from her tour and endorsement deals. But besides only appearing on Lady Gaga's single "Telephone," Beyoncé would take a break for much of 2010. She returned with her fourth album in 2011, simply titled '4,' which would also become her fourth consecutive number one album on the Billboard charts. Beyoncé has cumulatively sold over 75 million records worldwide and has won 16 Grammy Awards (3 with Destiny's child). She has been listed as one of the most powerful and one of most successful female artists of our time, with many other accolades and achievement under her belt. Beyoncé and Jay Z are currently expecting their first child.
