Jennifer Lopez Bio

Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born on July 24, 1969 in the Castle Hill neighborhood of The Bronx, New York. She was quite athletic during her school years competing in various sporting events. Lopez inherited the love for show business from her mother, who wanted to become a professional entertainer herself. But when Lopez dropped out of college to become a movie star, her parents were against the idea and this led to Lopez moving out of her family home and into an apartment in Manhattan. During this period, Lopez performed in regional productions of musicals until she auditioned and won the part of a Fly Girl dancer on the television comedy 'In Living Color' in 1991.

Lopez moved to Los Angeles for the show and her next high-profile job was as a backup dancer for Janet Jackson's 1993 music video "That's the Way Love Goes". Lopez's first job as an actress was on the FOX series 'South Central' while her first major Hollywood movie role was in the 1995 action comedy 'Money Train,' starring opposite Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. Lopez got her big break when she starred in the biopic 'Selena,' which gained her a lot of attention and critical acclaim. This led to Lopez appearing in bigger budget films such as 'Anaconda' and the Steven Soderbergh-directed 'Out of Sight' in 1998. Now a legitimate star, Lopez became the first Latina actress to earn over $1 million for a role.

In 1999, Lopez released her first music album 'On the 6' and her debut single, "If You Had My Love," went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Her second album titled 'J.Lo,' debuted at number one while at the same time, Lopez's romantic comedy film, 'The Wedding Planner' also topped the U.S. box office in 2001. This feat made Lopez the first female to have a film and an album reach the number one spot in America, in the same week. Lopez released more albums until 2007, although her later albums fail to do well commercially. Lopez made a strong comeback in 2011 with her song "On The Floor," her biggest hit to date and the second most watched music video on VEVO with over 500 million views.

Lopez continues to star in movies and currently sits as a judge on the hit reality show 'American Idol,' alongside Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson. Lopez has been in many high profile relationships including rapper Sean "Puffy" Combs, actor Ben Affleck and singer Marc Antony, to whom she was married to for seven years until 2011. Lopez and Antony are in a custody battle over their twin children Max and Emme.

Lopez has launched successful perfumes, several fashion lines and endorses brands such as L' Oreal, Fiat and Lux in Japan. Lopez has sold over 55 million albums and her movies have collectively grossed over a billion dollars worldwide.
