When we say Takraw is probably the coolest sport most Americans have never heard of, take our word for it. Called 'Sepak Takraw,' or kick volleyball if you want to anglicize it, the sport has its origins in southeast Asia, where it still remains a popular sport.

Takraw is played on a volleyball-esque court, with a raised net dividing two sides and teams. But unlike volleyball, players can't touch the ball with their hands. They have to control the uniquely designed plastic ball with only their feet. The awesomeness kicks in (literally) when you see how Takraw players move the ball around (think Hacky Sack) and kick it over to the opponents' side with moves that have to be seen to be believed. Watch:

Though nations like Thailand and Malaysia are champions in the sport, Takraw is played professionally in several countries - including America! The USA Takraw Association was formed in 1996 with a mission to promote Takraw and to foster the selection of national teams to represent the United States in international competitions. USA Takraw is still at a grassroots level, but interest in the sport is growing.

We would love to see Takraw get some more mainstream attention in the U.S.. At a time when extreme sports and real fighting have become legitimate contenders in sports entertainment, there's no reason why a skilled, fast-paced sport like Takraw wouldn't find an audience.

Come on ESPN, we know how to spell 'sepak takraw,' now show us some high flying kicks!
