Learning that you've been traded to another team is an inevitable event during the career of a Major League Baseball player. For most players it's just a part of life - a non-event you might say. Not so for former Phillies pitcher Vance Worley when he was traded on Dec. 6, 2012, to the Twins.

Worley had definitive plans and his off-season actions set many things in concrete. For example, Vance had just signed a one-year lease on a three bedroom house outside Philadelphia. That's not an easy thing to get out of. Oh, AND he was just about to propose to his Philly-born girlfriend and settle down. The girl he met on Twitter. Wait, what?

Their 140-character romance began in Sept. 2011 when Worley posed for a picture with an adoring fan - his soon to be girlfriend - at an autograph signing in Aston, Pa. When the fan, Ms. Maricel Vivas, returned home later that evening, she sent the pitcher a link to the photo via Twitter. She got no reaction. Coincidentally, around the same time, one of Vance's teammates, Hunter Pence, went on Twitter teasing his followers about setting one of them up on a date with his fellow Phillies outfielder John Mayberry Jr.

Vivas sprang into action. She tweeted Pence with a response saying she did not want to have a date with Mayberry, but instead preferred a date with Vance Worley. It apparently made Vance all a-twitter because they set up a date for later and the rest is now history.

Vance got out of his leases and has since moved to Minnesota to begin his career with the Twins.
