Former Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed became the latest starter from the Super Bowl champions to leave Baltimore when he signed a three-year, $15 million contract with the Houston Texans on Friday. During his 11 seasons in Baltimore, Reed intercepted 61 passes, a total that ranks first among active players and 10th in NFL history.

Reed became the eighth starter from the Ravens to leave the team during the 2013 free agency period. Baltimore lost free agent linebackers Paul Kruger (Cleveland) and Dannell Ellerbe (Miami) and cornerback Cary Williams (Philadelphia), and they released safety Bernard Pollard, who signed with Tennessee. Linebacker Ray Lewis and center Matt Birk retired, and the Ravens traded receiver Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers.

On Sunday, Baltimore signed former Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil to a five-year, $35 million deal. Dumervil was released by Denver via a contract snafu in which the team claimed it did not receive approval from the player's agent to rework his contract in time to avoid taking a salary cap hit.

The Texans also signed former Oakland Raiders punter Shane Lechler to a three-year, $5.5 million contract. A perennial Pro Bowl selection, Lechler played his entire 13-year NFL career in Oakland. He finished the 2012 season as the NFL's career leader in gross average per punt at 47.5 yards.

Meanwhile, former Texans' punter Donnie Jones signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday after Philly released Mat McBriar.

The New England Patriots reportedly re-signed offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer to a four-year deal on Sunday. The move allowed the Patriots to keep their offensive line in tact in front of quarterback Tom Brady.

Among the most desirable offensive players still available were Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Andre Smith, Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis and New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, who is a restricted free agent.

Defensively, teams had yet to sign Giants defensive end Osi Umemyiora, Raiders defensive tackle Richard Seymour, Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney or Atlanta Falcons defensive end John Abraham. Former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher was also without a team.
