This year, ‘Extra’ host Maria Menounos will be appearing at ‘WrestleMania’ to most likely make Beth Phoenix and/or Eve Torres look terrible by showing that either one of them can be beaten on wrestling’s grandest stage by a person who spends most of the year talking about celebrity gossip. But, strange as it might sound, this is actually a good thing.

Piss and moan all you want, but ever since Mr. T climbed into the ring with Hulk Hogan at ‘WrestleMania I,’ the annual extravaganza has always involved celebrities from outside the world of wrestling. The best thing you can say about it is that it’s not always terrible, but it gets the company mainstream attention and is just a necessary evil tradition at this point. So my feeling is, if we have to see a non-wrestling celebrity inserted into a match, it may as well be a Divas contest, which, let’s face it, probably wasn’t going to be anything resembling a mat classic.

In previous appearances for WWE, Menounos was passable by celebrity standards and actually pretty decent by Divas ones, so she’ll certainly be able to handle herself for the duration of a match that likely won’t go much over five minutes – if even that long. Yes, it’s problematic for the believability of either Beth or Eve if they get pinned by Menounos (which will almost certainly happen), and I’d really rather see a Divas match with any combination of Beth, Natalya, Tamina, A.J and/or Kharma, but the silver lining here is that Menounos won’t be shoehorned into a match or storyline that’s actually interesting or actually means something.
