International Beer Day is August 5. Though it's no World Middle Finger Day or Talk Like A Pirate Day, it's hard not to see the obvious benefits of International Beer Day: bringing the global community together through beer. It's like the Olympics with six packs and taps!

According to the International Beer Day site, IBD has a three-fold purpose:

1) To gather with friends and enjoy the deliciousness that is beer.

2) To celebrate the dedicated men and women who brew and serve our beer.

3) To bring the world together under the united banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations and cultures together on this one remarkable day.

There are 353 official IBD events taking place in 207 cities in 50 countries. You can find the one closest to you or just head out and grab a six pack of international beers (note for the geographically challenged: Mexico and Canada are considered other countries if you live in the US, so Dos Equis and Molson DO count).

International Beer Day is a concept we must all support. Do you know how unlikely war would be if every day was like International Beer Day? One thing's for sure: soldiers would be less likely to aim straight while drinking.
