Wyoming’s Least Favorite Insect Is Revealed

My grandpa was not a fan of spiders, and he passed that dislike on to me. He would tell me stories of how he would trap tarantulas in mason jars.

Where he grew up, when tarantula mating season rolled around, the males actively sought out their potential mate. When doing this, a large number of them would cross the roads, and that's when they would catch them.

I can still see him getting the heebie-jeebies while reliving the horrifying stories. I sometimes wonder if he told me those stories to freak me out, or if it was his way of coping; either way, it seems that Wyoming and my grandpa had something in common.

Hating spiders.

A new study by PestPac has revealed the most hated bugs in each state, and in Wyoming, it's spiders that freak people out the most. We're not alone; ten other states are with us in our hatred of spiders.

The most hated bugs are:

• Ants
• Bed Bugs
• Bees
• Cockroaches & termites
• Fliew
• Hornets, bees, & stink bugs
• Mosquitoes
• Spiders
• Ticks
• Wasps

In the study, PestPac analyzed Google Trends data and surveyed over 1,000 people. In their research, they discovered that insects freak some people out so much that they've gone to extreme measures.

• 64% have canceled their plans due to insects.
• 1 in 4 Gen Zers have moved out of their home due to bugs.
• 30% say having bugs in their home is a major source of anxiety.
• 48% say they will kill the insect immediately if they see it in their home.
• 18% figure out what kind of bug it is.
• 15% grab the bug spray.
• 11% rely on the catch-and-release method
• 4% say it's someone else's problem, and they need to deal with it immediately.
