Lindsay Lohan is an American actress, singer and model who grew into a successful young star, but saw her career take a downturn after her personal life attracted a great deal of publicity, and her multiple arrests affected her film career.

Lindsay Lohan (Lindsay Dee Lohan) was born on July 2, 1986 and grew up in Merrick and Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island, New York. Her father, Michael Lohan, is a former Wall Street trader, while her mother, Dina Lohan, is a former singer and dancer. Lindsay has three younger siblings, all of whom have been models or actors: brother Michael Jr. (who appeared with Lindsay in 'The Parent Trap'), Aliana "Ali", and Dakota "Cody".

Signed to Ford Models, Lohan began modelling at age three. She modeled for Calvin Klein Kids and Abercrombie kids, and appeared in over a hundred television commercials, including those for Pizza Hut and Wendy's. At 10, Lohan appeared in her first television series playing Alexandra "Alli" Fowler in the NBC soap opera 'Another World'. Her big break came the following year when she starred in the 1998 family comedy 'The Parent Trap,' a remake of Disney's original from 1961. Lohan played both the roles of the estranged twins and her performance received much praise from critics. After appearing in a few television films, Lohan returned to the big screen in the 2003 comedy 'Freaky Friday,' starring opposite Jamie Lee Curtis. The film was a smash hit and it was on 'Freaky Friday''s soundtrack Lohan began showcasing her singing.

In 2004, Lohan starred in 'Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,' and also signed a recording contract with Casablanca Records, headed by music supremo Tommy Mottola. The same year, Lohan also starred in the Tina Fey-scripted comedy 'Mean Girls'. The film was a critical and commercial success, thereby cementing Lohan's status as a teen star. 2004 also saw the release of Lohan's debut album 'Speak,' which went on to sell over 2 million copies. The next year, Lohan starred in Disney's 'Herbie: Fully Loaded,' the filming of which was impacted by Lohan's ever increasing stress in her personal life. Lohan was hospitalized with a kidney infection due to hectic schedules and also broke up with actor Wilmer Valderrama, whom she was dating at the time.

Her parents' separation in 2005 added to Lohan's struggles. Her rising profile in Hollywood, along with her partying lifestyle made Lohan a paparazzi magnet. Lohan has been involved in a series of car accidents, many of them DUI and she has been arrested twice for possession of cocaine. Lohan's frequent arrests, visits to the court and rehab clinics led to many of her film roles being withdrawn, as producers described Lohan as 'un-insurable'. Lohan's subsequent films mostly flopped with only a handful of performances in films such as 'Georgia Rule' and 'Bobby' earning her any acclaim. Lohan's personal life continued to attract the paparazzi when she dated DJ Samantha Ronson from 2008 to 2009. Despite the relationship, Lohan claims she is not a lesbian.

Lohan's name still got her involved in fashion, as she partnered with retailers and designers for fashion lines and other beauty products. As her legal troubles subside, Lohan is trying make a comeback. Lohan hosted 'Saturday Night Live' in early 2012, her fourth time as show host. She also appeared nude in the January/February 2012 issue of Playboy, in a pictorial inspired Marilyn Monroe, who Lohan has idolized ever since she was younger.
