Here we have a list of the top 10 memorable quotes in gaming that can be heard over a dinner of Cheetos and Bawls.

Quotes are what drive the mind of the gamer geek. It is a language that we all speak. From the obscure to the overused, video game quotes are a way of sharing our experiences and indentifiying the initiated. You let fly a quote in everyday conversation with someone new and you wait for that glint of comprehension in their eyes. Once you spot it, you're down the rabbit hole of reminescence, never to make it out. That is, until you start arguing whether PS3 or XBOX 360 is better.

This is our list of the top 10 memorable quotes in gaming.

“I'm the grim reaper, lardass, and you're my next customer.”

    Manny Calavera, Grim Fandango

Tim Schaffer is legendary for creating some of the most memorable characters in adventure game history. Grim Fandango is one of his most beloved games and Manny Calavera is one of his most memorable creations. In a game where almost every line of dialog is suitable quote material, this line stands out as one of the best. It tells you so much about Manny, while at the same time moving the story along. It is also the only time we've ever heard “lardass” in a video game.

    “It's a me, Mario!”

    Mario, Super Mario 64

Of course this was going to make it into our top 10 memorable quotes in gaming. It's him, you know, Mario. The most famous face to ever grace your N64 politely introduced himself every time you slipped that cartridge into your system. Mario has never really said much, but he might simply be a man of few words. Thankfully he let finally let us know his name and what he looked like, because we were beginning to forget with all the dozens of games and plush toys and movies with John Leguizamo.

Elena Fisher: No cursed treasures? Nathan Drake: Nope. Elena Fisher: No diabolical warlords? Nathan Drake: No. Elena Fisher: You are the worst liar.”

    Uncharted

Drake is a useful source when it comes to punchy one liners, but this string of dialog neatly sums up his way of life and the past couple games. The always snarky Drake is constantly downplaying everything, from the fact that he's killed more foreign mercenaries than typhoid, and is constantly getting himself into situations that would make Indiana Jones hesitate. But, we enjoyed every moment and line along the way.

    “Snake? SNAAAAAAAAKE!!!”

    Colonel Campbell, Metal Gear Solid

To anyone who has died in any of the Metal Gear games, you've heard a voice screeching this over Solid Snake's radio. This quote was usually preceeded by an exclamation from all the guards, feet stomping, and a burst of gunfire. We aren't sure what the colonel was thinking, but no amount of screaming can revive someone with a full clip of ammunition embedded in their torso.

“The President has been kidnapped by ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?”

    Bad Dudes

Back in the 80's, when Michael Jackson made being “bad”, “good”, there was a little game called Bad Dudes. It wasn't a very good game, but who cares? The President has been kidnapped by ninjas! Ninjas! Of course a line as badass as this was going to make it into the list of 10 memorable quotes in gaming list.

    “YOU HAVE DIED OF DYSENTERY”

    Oregon Trail

In the days of DOS, this was the most terrifying line of text in any game. It not only meant game over, but it compounded the fact that you'd contracted a horrific disease and the game felt the need to rub it in your face. Even before Resident Evil plastered “You're Dead” across the screen, Oregon Trail was mocking your failure with each one of its petty pixels.

    “Do a barrel roll!”

    Peppy, Star Fox 64

Just do what he says! Hit Z or R twice and DO A BARREL ROLL! It's also fun to scream this at your friend who's driving and yank the wheel. (The editors do not condone messing about while driving unless it is REALLY funny.)

“It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum…and I'm all out of gum.”

    Duke Nukem, Duke Nukem

Come to think of it, this line pretty much sums up Duke. Well, add a bit more toilet humor and childlike misogyny and you'd a have Duke in a nutshell. Duke was full of one liners, but this was the one that has stood the test of time and probably caused the sales of bubble gum to skyrocket somewhere in the early nineties.

“It's dangerous to go alone! Take this.”

Old Man, The Legend of Zelda

It is always dangerous to go alone! Whether you take the offered sword, shield, or irate kitten, no other line in gaming stirs up the sands of nostalgia like this one. No other line in gaming has such power or has spawned so many Internet memes. Power and popular internet memes are the same thing right?

    “Would you kindly?”

    Atlas, Bioshock

These three words are possibly some of the most powerful in all of video game storytelling. These three words sent players of Bioshock through such a loop, that it has stuck with them to this day. Buried in amongst the clever allusions and turns of plot, this line turned the entire story of Bioshock on its head. To this day, if you find out someone has played Bioshock, insert this phrase before asking them to do something and watch them become your little puppet. Would you kindly continue reading?
