The good news is that the long-awaited Diablo III hacked and slashed its way to PCs today, but the bad news is that there's no release in sight for consoles. Developer Blizzard, though, has done a poor job of keeping its plans for an Xbox 360/PS3 release secret. Even though the company is hiring for console development, it's still not committing to actually releasing the game on those machines.

In an interview with Gamasutra, director Jay Wilson says Blizzard is only in the experimental phase of possibly bringing the game to the "PS360" monolith. It seems the company really wants to pull off the port, but won't release anything unless the final product is mind-meltingly amazing.

Says Wilson, "That's why we haven't kept it super secret, but we also haven't confirmed it, because we're not sure yet whether we think it will work, and whether we think we have the resources to do it."

We imagine labs full of steaming test tubes overseen by frizzy-haired professors wearing Hazmat suits. For the job security of these bold experimenters Blizzard is hiring, as well as our Diablo III-on-console greed, we hope the game is up to snuff and makes it to consoles.
