There's something about the early 60s, man -- we love midcentury babes. On this day 1960, this one became a champion.

Heiss grew up in Ozone Park, Queens and began skating when she was just six years old. In 1951 at the age of 11, she became the U.S. Novice Ladies' Champion, won the U.S. Junior Ladies title in 1952, and began competing at the senior level by 1953.

Seven years later, she won the gold for the US on January 30th in Squaw, CA, after being ranked first by all nine judges. Carol was a rare figure skating talent, and a classic 60s beauty. She's now 73 years old, and we hope she's still kicking butt on the rink.
