Participants: Marty (Michael J. Fox), a skateboard ridin', vest wearin' teen from the '80s, and his mother (Lea Thompson), a repressed teen girl in the '50s.

Circumstances: Let's see. Marty has traveled back in time by accident in a souped up Delorean modified by his wacky scientist friend. There, he meets his mother as a teen, who falls for him in a big way. The night of a major high school dance, she insists that he take her, which will screw up all sorts of things as that's the very night his father is meant to first pitch the woo towards his mother.

What Makes It Awful? Well, the incest thing is certainly uncomfortable for everyone (even the mother, who kisses Marty and then thinks better of going any further), but it's also a mess because he's inadvertently cock-blocking his own father, which would, in the time-space continuum, preclude his own existence. It's heavy, man.

Outcome: His mother recoils after kissing him, allowing him to flee the car, which leaves her vulnerable to an attack by the resident school meathead, Biff (Thomas F. Wilson), but she's rescued by Marty's father, George (Crispin Glover), and all's well -- at least for Marty and his family. Poor Biff goes from being a town blowhard and having George to kick around the rest of his life, to becoming a pathetic wretch who's forced to wax Marty's car with multiple coats. No one ever complains about all the changes Marty inflicts on the future, because they all benefit him.
