R is for River of Green — St. Patrick’s Day A-Z

Chicago goes all out for St. Patrick’s Day, dying the Chicago River green at 10am on the Saturday before the holiday, just before the start of the parade at noon.

Thousands of people gather to witness the Kelly green water transformation, so if you plan to attend, you’ll want to get an early start, before the streets turn green for a whole other reason.
