No. 79: Bastion – 100 Greatest Games Ever
Like playing a watercolor painting except more beautiful and captivating, Bastion hit the gaming world with a calamity. How can the big guys hope to compete when all the originality is in the tiny studios like Supergiant Games?
Logan Cunningham's raspy narrator is perhaps the best feature of the game, as you have someone talking you through what the hero is thinking and doing at any particular moment. It makes the story much more compelling and gives it that much more humanity. Of course, story without gameplay just doesn't work for video games, but the action here is on par with the best examples of the genre, smartly letting you equip two different weapons at once to vary your play style accordingly.
A perfect little game.
