No. 29: Galaga – 100 Greatest Games Ever
One of the first shooters ever is easily one of the best. Everyone knows how it plays- swarms of insectoid aliens swarm in and start advancing on your position- but Galaga is still as addicting today, 31 years later.
The quest for the high score is a lifelong one and we'll admit that we can never pass by an arcade cabinet without trying to get through a few stages. It's hard not to, since as you learn the enemy patterns and maybe earn an extra life or two after a bonus stage you'll really feel like you're progressing in the game. One of the few arcade games that wasn't just trying to suck your quarters away.. although it did that very easily too. Very few of us have ever gotten to the elusive level 160.
The game has been ported to practically every system in existence but nothing beats the cabinet.
