It's difficult to think of another series that's so crushingly stupid yet imminently playable than Gears of War. Skip the laughable and melodramatic cutscenes and you'll find a fantastic third person shooter, one that's only made better when you're playing with three friends.

The co-op campaign in Gears of War 3 is better than any other around, full of massive set pieces and varied challenges. New weapons like the bayonet-equipped Retro Lancer and Double Barreled Shotguns offer new styles of play, and you can even jump into Mechs to really tear up the enemy.

The online multiplayer is vastly improved as well, as is the Horde Mode 2.0, either of which would make the game worth it. Add in Beast Mode and a campaign that you'll play multiple times whenever a friend needs your help and you've got a stacked set that belongs in your collection.
