You know you're playing a great game when you forget about the story and just forge your own path. The main quest is the weakest part of this game, but it doesn't really matter. You can spend dozens of hours simply exploring the world, running into adventures and fighting monsters. There is a staggering amount of stuff to do and the game doesn't ever have to end- even after finishing the main quest and the massive number of side quests the game will throw randomly generated missions at you to keep you playing forever, or at least for hundreds of hours.
Fast travelling is for suckers- walking around is the only way to experience this expansive world. Just wait until you're dumbstruck with the Northern Lights.
